Introduction

The following writings are part of an ongoing project which eventually aims to catalogue and review every single UK folk album released on vinyl. The work spans four decades and will ultimately detail every artist, label and private pressing. It is hoped that the resource will be valuable to fans of folk music in it's broadest sense and also to record collectors. For those of you who fall into the latter category, I'm sure you will have noticed that many record dealers hype or downright lie about an album's supposed merits, in order to push up the price of mediocre LPs. This pisses me off no end. Hopefully a few minutes spent reading the reviews here, will save you from spending your hard earned cash on a "private press folk gem", only to discover after purchasing that it is in fact nothing more than a run of the mill country and western LP!

Where possible, I have endevoured to double check details such as pressing numbers, personnel, etc with the artist, label owner or similar. I owe a big debt of thanks to those people and although there are too many of you to list individually, all your help is sincerely appreciated. Thanks must also go to those of you who have helped me locate obscure items, by sharing your record collections with me.

Regarding values given to the LPs here. The prices are only a GUIDE to what you might expect to pay from a knowledgeable record dealer. These do not take into account the fluctuations in price on ebay, nor do they consider asking prices with oversea dealers or the bargain you might find at a flea market. Ultimately the value of an LP is what a buyer is willing to pay on the day. These prices are not set in stone.

This is still very much "work in progress", so please accept my apologies for grammatical errors, etc. I do not make any claims to be an expert and I'm sure there are mistakes here. If you spot any, please let me know and I will correct them. If you disagree with my opinions on any album, that's fine. I write the reviews based on what I hear with my own ears. You might love an LP that I hate, or vice versa. Great, that's music for you!

If you want to contact me for any reason, click here to email . I'd love to hear your opinions and notifications of any errors. There are thousands of albums to be added to the database, but if you feel I may have missed one, let me know!

In closing, The contents of these pages will ultimately become a printed book. At that point, these pages may well have their content edited down. (after all why buy a book when you can read it on line for free?). But until that point, the work is free for anyone to read and use. One point though. If you plan to use the content on you own web pages, articles or dealer listings, please be sure to credit this site and myself. All the work is copyrighted but if you want to use it, don't steal, just ask!
